Chapter 2 Honeymoon

Three months ago, Lyla had asked for a divorce, but Joshua never responded. It was like he''d completely ignored it. Now, three months later, after she''d been "caught cheating," he suddenly decided to bring it up. And why did his tone sound so damn sarcastic?

But Lyla wasn''t about to back down. She examined her freshly manicured nails and deliberately tried to get under his skin. "At least he''s good in bed. You, on the other hand..."

Joshua''s expression didn''t change. He just stared at her, completely unfazed by her direct attack on his masculinity. That was the thing about him—while that kind of provocation might work on other guys, Joshua never lost his cool, even when being insulted.

And that was exactly why Lyla wanted to leave him. He was so damn boring! It seemed like this man would never lose control. He didn''t even flinch when she confronted him about the woman living on 14th Springton Street. He stayed just as calm when she demanded a divorce.

Pursing her lips, Lyla didn''t say anything more. Her husband had gotten his kicks for the day. There was no point in winning this round of verbal sparring. She turned to look out the window instead. The scenery was unfamiliar. Frowning, she asked, "This isn''t the way home, is it?"

"Mom and Dad miss us. They called and asked if we could come for dinner," Joshua explained patiently.

Oh. It clicked. Lyla pulled out a tissue and wiped off her red lipstick, then dug another tube out of her purse.

The new lipstick wasn''t the bold red from before, but a muted nude pink that made her look more reserved and gentle.

The car pulled into the driveway of the Harvey residence. A servant hurried over to open their door. After getting out, Lyla naturally slipped her arm through Joshua''s. They exchanged a quick look, then walked inside together like the perfect loving couple.

"We''re home!" Lyla called out cheerfully.

"Lyla!" When Joshua''s mother, Maureen, emerged from the kitchen, Lyla rushed to hug her.

Maureen was delighted by her daughter-in-law''s affection. She looked Lyla up and down and frowned. "It''s getting colder every day, and you''re wearing such thin clothes. Your hands are freezing. Joshua, you need to take better care of your wife!"

Lyla blinked innocently. "Joshua''s always so busy. He doesn''t have time to look after me."

With a gentle smile, Joshua said casually, "I''ll take you to Iceland to see the Northern Lights once I wrap up this project. You''ve always wanted to go there, right?"

Lyla beamed at him happily. To Maureen''s eyes, the two looked at each other with pure love. She sighed in satisfaction.

Joshua''s father, Kameron, was usually serious, but since he hadn''t seen his son and daughter-in-law in a while, he smiled warmly at them. "Sit down. Dinner''s almost ready. Maureen cooked herself tonight, knowing you''d be here."

Lyla gasped in delight. "Oh my God! Really? That''s amazing! It''s been forever since I''ve had Maureen''s home cooking. I really missed it. Thank you, Maureen!"

Lyla sat next to Maureen at the table, constantly praising her cooking. She''d also occasionally encourage Joshua to try certain dishes—none of which were his favorites. When he looked up at her with a questioning gaze, Lyla smiled back innocently. She was doing it on purpose.

Joshua just shrugged and ate whatever Lyla recommended without complaint.

He and Kameron talked business over dinner. When Joshua mentioned that a major project was nearly finished, Kameron nodded approvingly. "Good timing to take Lyla to Iceland. I think that''s a wonderful idea. When you got married, we were so caught up with that overseas deal that you never had a proper honeymoon. This trip can make up for it."

"And maybe you''ll come back pregnant," Maureen said with a wink. "I''m counting on it."
